I’ve had a brilliant weekend talking to so many people who are filled with enormous passion and desire to see Newcastle thrive.
Understandably, Novocastrians are keen to hear my position on the Newcastle Urban Renewal Strategy (NURS), which includes the removal of the rail line and inner city development.
I want to be very clear on my position regarding these projects so there are no surprises further down the track.
I support these projects and believe we are now at the crucial point where we must start shaping the NURS outcomes to ensure Newcastle’s destiny as a world-class city.
As the Member for Newcastle I will advocate to:
-
Support and progress the truncation of the rail line and give the city connectivity to the harbour
-
Retain the rail corridor as a green, community-focused artery through the city
-
Secure the project’s funding to ensure it is not subject to government change and that sufficient funds are set aside to provide the light rail as soon as possible.
-
Build on the impact the NURS will have on our regional economic performance by using these infrastructure projects as a catalyst to encourage new smart technology projects in energy, advanced manufacturing, health and education
This is my position and it will not change.
I understand this position will not be to everybody’s liking but that’s the wonderful thing about democracy, all opinions are welcome and encouraged!
While you and I may not agree on everything, I’m a passionate believer in collaboration and bringing all viewpoints to the table. If we both have a world-class Newcastle as our goal, we will always find common ground.
This is also, by the way, the beauty of being a truly independent candidate. I’m not aligned with any group, backed by any individual sector or beholden to a party powerbroker.
My only interest is securing a world-class future for our incredible city.
