Have you ever looked at the social media amazeball world with its go get em’ quotes of ‘you can do anything’, and its picture perfect lives, and thought ‘you’re a pack of nobs’?
Well I do, but maybe I’m just not a nice person!
I don’t know if I’m right, but I genuinely don’t think every child has the potential to be anything they want, nor that you can do anything you want if you “just believed in yourself”. I think this is a load of bollocks and sets us up for major disappointments in life.
My upbringing was a very unhealthy step away from picture perfect, but in a strange way I find myself watching the world around me and thinking maybe the silver lining on that cloud is I gained a realistic understanding of the word ‘possible’ (I’m positive this understanding can be gained in healthier ways).
Now I’m not advocating harsh upbrings, throwing your dreams out the door, or even giving away your social media (it has a place). I’m advocating we become more realistic with the word ‘possible’, and view the amazingness pumped into us every day for what it is – bollocks.
Continue to strive to make your, and your special others, lives better, but don’t set yourself up for failure and completely miss the beauty of the luck which you did receive.
